Libraries traditionally have done little marketing. It has usually been a way for students and parents to use free resource materials and books. Ads in the local newspaper market various programs for recreation and learning.
Over the last several years, libraries have started putting entire collections of reference materials online for those with library cards to use without having to leave the comfort of their own homes. They may also reserve books or renew those already checked out. To find the library, however, the interested individual must be able to find them online through search engines. Marketing libraries online makes this possible and increases both foot traffic and online use.
