Shamrock Marathon Raises Money for Charities

St. Patrick’s Day weekend brought more than just wearing of the green to Virginia Beach, it also brought the 38th Annual Yuengling Shamrock Marathon event. With several races of different lengths run over the weekend, the sportsfest raised more than $525,000 for several charitable organizations.

Kudos to marathon winner Sergey Kaledin, who completed it in 2:27:50, and half marathon winner Mike Morgan, who finished in 1:04:56. Congratulations to all who competed in the weekend’s events.

More than 23,000 runners and walkers combined participated in a full marathon, half marathon, 8k challenge and 1 mile race. Money raised benefited several local charities, including the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office Community Fund, Operation Smile, United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training Program, American Cancer Society and The Joy Fund.

Customer Magnetism sponsored a comfort station along the route on the North End of Virginia Beach for marathon and half marathon runners. Some of our staffers offered enthusiasm and encouragement for those passing by. The weather was beautiful and the sportsfest was the perfect opportunity to have fun, celebrate fitness and support the local community.
