The Customer Magnetism crew wanted to do something special for the month of November to help those in need in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area. As you may already know, our company project is to help the ForKids program provide Thanksgiving dinners for at least 400 families in the area. ForKids strives to help local children and their families transition out of poverty and homelessness through a variety of community programs. The Thanksgiving Dinner Drive is just one.
The Customer Magnetism team has committed to providing a combined minimum of 50 dinners. Individual employees are joining together to supply some of them by gathering up designated items for each family dinner, and the company itself will match the rest. For example, we already have several boxes each of stuffing mix and mashed potatoes ready and waiting. Some cranberry sauce, collards, gravy and other items will be arriving in our office in the next few days. On the week of November 15th, a group from CM will deliver the dinners to the program’s holiday shop in Norfolk. Some employees will also hand out the dinners and other donations.
ForKids has helped more than 1,200 families over the last 20 years. Other local programs include transitional and emergency housing, health care services and Hot Meals & Homework.
I have seen firsthand the Hot Meals & Homework program in action at the ForKids’ Norfolk location. Some years ago, I spent a few evenings there helping out as a volunteer. It’s a clean, safe, warm and friendly atmosphere. Upon arrival, the children received an after-school snack and had a little bit of time for socializing and unwinding before getting down to business. I helped children with their homework until it was finished, then we had a little time to play some games together, like Candyland and Chutes and Ladders. I was impressed with how polite, obedient and funny the children were. The staff at the facility knew each child and family by name and was extremely well organized. At the end of the sessions, the children cleaned up with little prompting before they were either picked up by their parents or given a ride home in the designated van. Each child or set of siblings was sent home with a hot meal and a smile.
When I found out Customer Magnetism would be supporting ForKids’ Thanksgiving Dinner Drive for our latest community project, I got pretty excited. It’s a good cause.
