The Web is a veritable bounty of sometimes adorable, usually quirky, often questionable animals, but few have earned the distinction of Google Trends’ top 10 Famous Internet Animals of 2013.
If you use the Internet on a regular basis, chances are, you know quite a few of these animal wonders, but what makes them the most sought after creatures on the Internet, you ask? What better way for us to explain their animal super-stardom than with a series of GIFs?
1. Grumpy Cat
Also known as Tardar Sauce, Grumpy Cat earned her name by, well, looking grumpy. Am I really explaining this? Even my Grandma knows about Grumpy Cat. This is just a great excuse to look at her precious, yet skeptical, face:
2. Lil Bub
Much to my surprise, Lil Bub is not a rapper, but instead just a cute kitty cat known for her “permakitten” appearance. Presh. That curled tongue, though.
3. Tuna the Dog
A dog with a real “rags to riches” story, Tuna was an abandoned dog found in San Diego. Since being rescued, his uncanny resemblance to Mr. Burns from The Simpsons has captured the hearts of the Internet.
4. Colonel Meow
A crabby kitty with a dictator complex, Colonel Meow is the Internet’s most beloved autocrat. While he’s popular on the Web, I can’t imagine most people would want this particular animal in their homes. Those eyes.
5. Princess Monster Truck
Princess Monster Truck wasn’t always the resplendent goddess you see today. Once a ruler of the bushes in Brooklyn, NY, this princess rose from starvation to sovereignty . . . right where she belongs.
6. Menswear Dog
Bodhi isn’t the only dog who wears people clothes, but he is just about the only dog that does it like a boss. With his proclivity for couture, this guy’s got a bright future full of book deals, advertising opportunities, and just being generally fabulous.
7. Sir Stuffington
This little guy will brighten your day while conquering the high seas! Just try to not to watch this GIF loop more than twice. I DARE YOU.
8. Yogurt The Dog
Yogurt the chihuahua is derp IRL, but LOOK AT HER SILLY LITTLE FACE. It is impossible not to fall in love. Her outfits/accessories are pretty great, too.
9. Bully the Bulldog
Bully the Bulldog is the official school mascot of Mississippi State University. “Bully” is more of a title than a name though, as any bulldog with this job will earn it. Below pictured: Tonka and current Bully, Champ.
10. Maddie the Coonhound
A shelter rescue turned pro traveler, Maddie mostly stands on things. That’s right: Maddie embarked on a year-long, cross-country tour as the travel companion to her photographer owner, where she was photographed balancing on various objects. She’s not only one of the most photogenic dogs in the country, but probably the most patient, too.
