What is Responsive Web Design (RWD)?

Essentially, Responsive Web Design is an approach to website creation that is structured in a way that automatically adjusts itself based on the size of your screen—whether it is viewed from a desktop or a smartphone—the content is reorganized, rearranged and scaled up or down. RWD is not the same as mobile design. Mobile design is an entirely different website or app that is specific to the mobile device. With RWD, all images, fonts and other elements will be scaled appropriately, maximizing whatever screen size the user has. Here is a little more insight on what RWD is and the move towards it, written by our VP of Creative.

Here are the top 5 advantages of having RWD.

Advantage #1:

Google recommends it. “Google recommends webmasters follow the industry best practice of using responsive web design, namely serving the same HTML for all devices and using only CSS Media Queries to decide the rendering on each device.”

Advantage #2:

One website, many devices. This advantage supports the multi-device user. It’s almost like having 3 websites in 1. RWD sites are fluid, meaning the content is flexible and moves freely across all screen resolutions and all devices.

Advantage #3:

Future scalability. With frequent changes in sizes of mobile devices, this ensures that you will not need to create a separate website to fit certain screen sizes since RWD responds and re-configures to the size of your device.

Advantage #4:

Great user experience: You want your users to have the best experience possible when they land on your site. Eliminate the need for your users to pinch and zoom on a tiny screen. Having your website consistent is key when a user visits your website through their device at anytime.

Advantage #5:

It saves you money and time. With the right planning, RWD will cut down time since the Developer of your website will not have to create all new content or multiple codes.

Conclusion:
