Followup: Daily Deals in Danger Altogether?

September 6, 2011

Since it was revealed last month that Groupon was bleeding money, other big names offering daily deals also scrutinized the deep-discount model and found it wanting. Deals experimenters such as Facebook and Yelp owned up to the fact that the repetitive “super-deal” package isn’t viable for the long term, so they’re adjusting their approaches: Yelp scaled back its daily deals program, even to the point of reassigning half of the salesforce dedicated to those offerings. While Yelp cited feedback from critical business categories as the…

A Great Day for Customer Magnetism

August 25, 2011

In case you missed our announcement yesterday, Customer Magnetism received a pretty big accolade on Tuesday: we were named to the 2011 Inc. 500|5000 List of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies. We debuted at #2376 overall and came in at #229 for the Advertising & Marketing industry. It’s a milestone in our company history and a very proud moment for all of us. Since the Inc. 500|5000 list assesses success over a three-year period, this honor recognizes CM’s fiscal stability during a time when the U.S….

Groupon Bleeding Money

August 17, 2011

Below is a link to a great post from the Harvard Business Review on Groupon’s financial troubles. Apparently, despite their best efforts, they couldn’t fool the SEC into thinking they were even close to profitable. Rob Wheeler explains Groupon’s antics and delves into why the startup’s generous financial backing actually might lead to its downfall. My favorite quote: “The best way to manage a fledgling business is for managers to be impatient for profit but patient for growth.” A good gut check for growing businesses….

What you may not know is that SEAL Team 6 is based here in Virginia Beach, Virginia, the place…

August 15, 2011

Sharing images online just got a bit easier. Twitter.com now allows users to add images directly to their tweets via a camera icon. This new feature does three things for Twitter users. •    Increases security. Reducing the number of platforms and applications that have access to a person’s account lowers the opportunity for security threats and hackers. When the image is downloaded, the user’s personal information in digital Exif data form, such as location, is not transferred to the post with the image. •    Speeds…

Changing Places: Google Filters Out 3rd-Party Reviews

August 9, 2011

Google Places has been making some changes. The complexion of the site has been altered, impacting what people see when they do a local search. The most obvious change is that the number of reviews for the average Google Places business listing has dropped significantly. Why? Because business reviews from third-party sources are no longer included in the results. Reviews from sites like Yelp, Urban Spoon and Trip Advisor have been dropped from Google Places listings. When people pull up your business through Google Places,…
